About event
The Franklin Arts Festival Society was founded in 1989 as a non-profit organization. The Society’s purpose was twofold: to celebrate and promote the work of established and emerging (especially young) artists in the Franklin area; and second, to create and maintain an annual exhibition of quality local art for viewing and sale. The first festival, held in 1990, featured 147 paintings by Franklin artists and many craft booths. Last year, the Festival featured more than 500 exhibits in five thematic categories, including paintings, works on paper, textile art, pottery, photography, glass, woodturning, small sculpture and school art. The arts festival draws participants largely from what was once the Franklin area of South Auckland. But with entries open to all New Zealanders, the festival receives many entries from artists across the country.
