About event
This course, Breast Imaging A-Z: How to Read Like or Better Than the Experts, is a comprehensive, full-length discussion focused on understanding the fundamentals and applications of breast imaging in five separate sessions using a case-based approach supported by evidence-based literature review .
Session 1 will guide participants through the histopathological basis for benign and malignant breast diseases with imaging correlates. Traditional topics with simplified and new strategies are presented to review and advance the practice of mammography and ultrasound.
Session 2 will focus on diagnostic imaging for which observation may be appropriate and will focus on techniques and analytical parameters relevant to tissue intervention and diagnosis.
Session 3 will focus on critical issues in breast density risk assessment, as well as the prospects for additional screening such as whole breast ultrasound and tomosynthesis.
Session 4 deeply explores both current and evolving concepts and strategies in MRI interpretation with a literature review and case-based presentation
Session 5 explores medical legal liability issues in interpretation and communication, and provides strategies to avoid liability.
By the end of this course, participants should be able to:
- To analyze the histopathological basis of benign and malignant breast lesions
- Analysis of more reliable and simplified methods for assessing asymmetries commonly observed in screening and diagnosis
- Evaluate imaging criteria for diagnoses of benign, likely benign and suspicious imaging findings on mammography, ultrasound, MRI
- Evaluate the criteria for visual diagnosis and the need for tissue diagnosis of identified breast lesions
- Determine suitability for nonpalpable lesions subject to visual observation as opposed to biopsy
- Analysis of applications, methods and pitfalls of stereotactic, ultrasound and MRI biopsy
- Assess the basis and evidence for recommending surgical removal of “high-risk” lesions identified by percutaneous biopsy
- Analysis of current issues associated with breast density assessment, including risk and additional indications for screening
- To evaluate the effectiveness of additional screening and advanced screening techniques, including whole breast ultrasound, tomosynthesis, MRI, and breast nuclear medicine.
- Evaluate evidence-based approaches to MRI lesion assessment and determine the effectiveness of various breast MRI indications.
- To determine the medico-legal implications of different approaches to clinical breast imaging and communication and to develop strategies to reduce risk
The target audience:
