About Exhibition Center La Sucrière
La Sucrière is a famous building dedicated to contemporary art, located at 48 Quai Rambaud, on the banks of the Saône, in the Confluence district of the 2nd arrondissement of Lyon.
History of La Sucrière
Built in 1930, it was originally used as a factory warehouse to store sugar. It was enlarged in 1960 and finally abandoned in 1990. Three silos were added to the south in 1976. The building was completely renovated in 2003 by the architect William Vassal to become a space for contemporary art exhibitions. Since 2007, it has been the main venue for the Lyon Biennial of Contemporary Art. Its 9,000 m² surface area spread over three floors houses a complex and original architecture.
