Athens Democracy Forum 2025 in Athens, Greece

With emerging democracies retreating from authoritarianism and others falling prey to populism, there has never been a greater need to assess the evolving state of democracy and its impact now, amid rapid global change.

The Athens Democracy Forum brings together senior New York Times journalists along with international business leaders, policymakers, academics and experts to discuss the state of democracy and what action it requires in the face of growing challenges. Starting this year, the Forum is organized by the Foundation for Democracy and Culture, an independent non-profit organization, in collaboration with The New York Times, which continues to curate the topics discussed and publish special reports on them.

More than 400 international delegates from more than 30 countries take part in the Athens Democratic Forum.

The goal of the Athens Democracy Forum 2019 is to explore the strengths of alternative governance models and how to combat them. Key topics for discussion include:
