China is the world’s largest producer of primary aluminum, with nearly 60% of the global market, while total carbon dioxide emissions also remain at comparable levels. According to the China Non-Ferrous Metals Association, China’s non-ferrous metals industry emits about 660 million tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. Among these emissions, the aluminum industry contributed 550 million tons, representing a staggering 83.3% of the non-ferrous metals industry’s total emissions and approximately 5% of the country’s total emissions (which were estimated at approximately 11 billion tons in 2022).
