About Exhibition Center Halle Cultural Arts Centre
The Halle Cultural Arts Centre was built in 1912 as the Apex Town Hall. The population of Apex was estimated at 700 people. The cost of construction was $7,500.
The building served many purposes. Outside the front door on the sidewalk was a well with a hand pump.
On the first floor was a farmer’s market where seasonal fruit, vegetables and fresh chickens were sold. At the back were the fire station and two prison cells. Next to the front door was the ticket office.
Upstairs were the mayor’s office and a theatre with opera-style seating and large windows for ventilation (today’s HVAC!). Silent films, dramas and musicals were shown here, and the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department was based here. Located in the heart of the city’s historic district, it is perfect for exhibitions, musicals, dances, plays, receptions, meetings, fundraisers, and celebrations.
