About Exhibition Center INTEX Osaka
INTEX Osaka (International Exhibition Center, Osaka)is an exhibition and conference center in Suminoe Ward, Osaka Prefecture, Japan, on Sakishima Island, a commercial area of Osaka Bay. The total area of the exhibition complex is 132,709 square meters. m. It ranks third in the ranking of exhibition centers in Japan, behind Tokyo Big Sight and Makuhari Messe. The abbreviation “INTEX” means “International EXhibithion Center”. INTEX Osaka is operated by the Osaka International Economic Promotion Center.
In 1956, the “Osaka International Exhibition Port” was opened in Osaka as a permanent exhibition hall on the Osaka City Ground adjacent to the site of the 1st International Port trade exhibition. In 1959, a second building was added, expanding the exhibition space. Until the center moved to its current location in 1985, it hosted Osaka’s largest exhibitions.
The design for INTEX Osaka was developed by the Osaka City Development Bureau, Tohata Architects & Engineers. The construction of the exhibition center was carried out by the following companies: Obayashi Corporation, Matsumura Corporation, Kajima Corporation, Okumura Corporation.
Main characteristics of INTEX Osaka:
- 6 exhibition halls, total area 72,978 sq. m;
- total open area – 13,270 sq. m;
- in the open area there is a parking area, which is also used as a parking lot for loading and unloading vehicles;
- INTEX Plaza complex, with a dome 30 m high;
- an international conference hall with a capacity of 300 people, a VIP room and large and small conference rooms;
- on the roof of the Sixth Hall there is a parking lot for visitors, accommodating 900 cars;
- 2 restaurant;
- 9 shops;
- the complex is adapted for people with disabilities, the ability to rent a wheelchair.
