About event
ILA Berlin is where major players in the aerospace industry gather.
Its history dates back to July 10, 1909, with the opening of the Internationale Luftschiffart-Ausstellung exhibition in Frankfurt am Main. Even then, the ILA air show had all the characteristics of a modern specialized exhibition: foreign participants, several large exhibition pavilions, an exhibition of aircraft (airplanes, airships, helicopters) on the ground and in the air. To ensure the safety of balloons and airships, a meteorological service was created. This fact is recognized throughout the world by ILA 1909 as the pioneer of the aviation meteorological service. The air show was first held in Berlin in 1928 and after its resumption in 1959, it was held in Hannover under the new name “German Air Show” until 1990.
Since 1992, the ILA Air Show has been regularly held at Berlin Schönefeld Airport. ILA 2010 was held at this venue for the last time.
Following the completion of the new Berlin-Brandenburg International Airport, the exhibition will move to a new site in 2012, where conditions for the air show will be improved thanks to an expanded access road, rail connections to the city and a wide network of air routes.
The success of the 2010 exhibition necessitated the need to hold subsequent exhibitions, starting with ILA 2012, at a new site – the western part of Berlin Brandenburg International Airport BBI (Schönefeld West).
The debut of the ILA 2012 air show at the new premises of the Berlin ExpoCenter Airport was an unconditional success. The turnout was the highest in ILA’s 100-year history, with 1,243 exhibitors from 46 countries (2010: 1,153/47) presenting high-tech products for all sectors of the aerospace industry. 282 aircraft were deployed on the ground and in the air. The demonstration flight program took a total of 36 hours. The new exhibition venue attracted 230,000 visitors, including 125,000 specialists. 3,600 media representatives from 65 countries covered all exhibition events.
ILA 2014 brought together 1,203 exhibitors from 40 countries – the second largest number in the 105-year history of the ILA. About 227,000 visitors visited the exhibitors’ stands, which occupied 250,000 square meters. m in Berlin Expo Center Airport.
ILA Berlin Air Show 2016 demonstrated the capabilities and achievements of the global aerospace industry. A wide range of the latest technology products, as well as R&D, was presented by 1017 exhibitors from 37 countries. 150,000 visitors and members of the public filled the 250,000 sq. m Berlin ExpoCenter Airport. About 200 aircraft were shown on display and in flight displays. 50 congresses and conferences were held for professionals. 3,300 journalists from 50 countries received accreditation.
Unlike other exhibitions, the Berlin Airshow ILA offers optimal access to the markets of the European Union and the dynamically developing aerospace markets of Central and Eastern Europe (“the gateway between East and West”). In this way, ILA opens up the world’s most innovative and diversified regions with high purchasing power.
The ILA exhibition is divided into thematic segments:
commercial air services (including maintenance and care services); space flights; military, defense and security; equipment, engines and materials, and civil aviation, which includes the ILA helicopter center.
ISC – International Supplier Center
Taking into account the specifics of the production of components, ILA created its own, exclusive “exhibition within an exhibition” ISC for suppliers and their customers. Here suppliers have the opportunity to present their products in the territories where their customers are traditionally represented. For suppliers from related industries, the ISC International Supplier Center is an excellent opportunity to explore the aerospace market and present their own ideas.
HeliCenter – Helicopter Center
Meetings with customers. Establishing new contacts. As an “exhibition within an exhibition”, the Helicopter Center offers everything that is required in this area from a specialized fair: a focus on helicopters, on the market and, above all, on business success.
UAS – Drone Center
Wide range of products, from small unmanned systems to large unmanned aerial vehicles for civil and military use
CareerCenter – Professional Center
The ILA Vocational Center serves as a springboard for the aerospace industry. Over the course of two days, more than 40 companies and organizations presented themselves at ILA 2008, including EADS and Airbus, airberlin and Lufthansa, MTU and Rolls-Royce, as well as student organizations, schoolchildren and students. The program included company presentations, seminars and fascinating discussions.
Open exhibition and demonstration flights
The range of aircraft on display in the open areas covers a wide spectrum – from ultra-light sports aircraft, helicopters at ILA’s own helicopter center, business and general aviation aircraft to wide-body aircraft.
An exciting daily flight program (on specialist days – in the afternoon) includes flights for customers and demonstration flights of exhibitors, including on heavy-duty machines with thrust vector control right on the exhibition grounds, as well as an exciting display of aerobatics on gliders for the general public , firefighting aviation demonstrations and national military squadron flight programs.
In addition, the Berlin Air Show offers an extensive program of conferences, congresses and symposia, comparable to other aerospace exhibitions.
Unlike other aerospace exhibitions, ILA offers numerous high-level symposiums, congresses, meetings and conferences in the field of aviation and astronautics, as well as the provision of services for organizing meetings between exhibitors and buyers, delegations and decision-makers
- ILA brings together today’s experts.
