About Exhibition Center Abbotsford International Airport
Abbotsford International Airport is a public airport in the Canadian city of Abbotsford. It is approximately 4.1 kilometers southwest of the Abbotsford city center.
After Vancouver International Airport, it is the second largest airport in the Lower Mainland. In terms of aircraft departures (102,128) and passengers (503,693), it was Canada’s nineteenth busiest airport in 2010.
Events
The airport has hosted the annual Abbotsford International Airshow since 1962, which is usually held on the second weekend of August. Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau declared it Canada’s national airshow in the mid-1970s. It is the largest airshow in Canada and one of the largest in North America. It is considered one of the top ten airshows in the world. It draws aircraft enthusiasts from all over Western Canada and the Pacific Northwest. Many of the exhibits can be seen up close thanks to fixed-wing displays, and numerous performances fill the skies above. The International Airshow Council bestowed the Silver Pinnacle Award on the airshow in 2014.
