About Exhibition Center Interior Provincial Exhibition
The Armstrong and Spallumchin Agricultural Society underwent many changes in its pursuit of the best product. In 1919, the society renamed the fair to the North Okanagan Fall Fair to expand the fairgrounds and allow for more participants. This change provided an opportunity for comparison. The fair was originally called the ‘North Okanagan Fall Fair’ and grew to the point where it required sheep, hog, poultry, and cattle barns.
In 1930, the society changed the name to the ‘Inland Provincial Exhibition’ to attract even more members. Since then, the IPE has continued to grow. The Armstrong Fair has been able to continue for decades thanks to the determination and spirit of its longtime leaders, such as M. Hassen Sr. and Mat Hassen Jr. Despite facing collapse in the 1930s, the directors decided to hold the fair each year, and it has continued to develop its agricultural theme.
The fair has been providing a service to the people of Armstrong since its first tabletop fair. The IPE serves the agricultural community in the area. Armstrong’s commercial activity has increased, making it one of the few fairs that do not incur ongoing losses. The IPE has balanced this new commercial interest with the fair’s agricultural basis.
