RAI history
The origins of the RAI complex can be traced back to 1893, when RI (Rijwiel-Industrie, which means ‘bicycle industry’) was founded by several bicycle manufacturers.
The first RI bicycle exhibition was held in 1895 at the Paleis voor Volksvlijt (Palace of Industry) in Amsterdam.
In 1922, the RAI got its own exhibition hall on Ferdinand Bolstraat in Amsterdam.
The current complex on the Europaplein was opened on 2 February 1961.
Exhibitions held
The RAI Amsterdam hosts around 50 international conferences and 70 trade fairs every year.
