About event
Arable Scotland 2024 is a brand new event for Scotland where the industry can view, share and explore new innovations that will drive markets and the future sustainability of Scottish arableland production. Free admission to the event includes an introductory tour of a core set of field sites, as well as a combination of indoor and outdoor exhibits, field demonstrations and trials, tours of the Sustainable Planting Platform Center, and arable talks. This will be a high-profile and collaborative event and we are delighted to have the support of a number of major commercial and research organizations who will help us deliver an event that will meet the growing and ever-changing needs of Scottish arable produce.
Zone 1: Innovative breeding - new tools, new resources to meet real needs
Zone 2: Quality Crops for Specific Markets - New and Emerging or Niche Varieties and Related Market Information
Zone 3: Innovative plant management. Promotion of crop protection products and other agronomic and precision solutions.
Zone 4: Sustainable and Healthy Systems - Promoting Diversification, Connectivity, Crop Rotations and Soil Health
Following the success of Arable Scotland's first event in 2019, plans for 2020 are already gaining momentum. The sustainability of cropland production systems in Scotland is a key issue and following our recent Twitter poll, cereals have emerged as a popular topic for the 2020 event.
The arable industry in Scotland is keen to select new innovations and use them in sustainable rotations that improve financial returns as well as benefit the soil and sustainability. New crops suitable for Scotland and cash crops such as peas, beans and oats will be a key feature of next year's event, as will management practices such as reseeding and cover crops. Industry innovation will continue to be a major part of the event, with hybrid wheat varieties just one of the topics discussed and commercially showcased next year.
We're already expecting more companies to be represented next year, with a site at Balruddery Farm near Dundee already under development. We encourage businesses to contact them in advance if they wish to book a place and especially if they wish to demonstrate winter crops.
